DecGovernment Outlines Plans To Equip Artisans With Knowledge On Electric Vehicles
The Vice Presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has assured artisans at Kumasi Suame Magazine of equipping them with the requisite skills to man electric vehicles.
The decision comes at a time when Ghana has begun the process of completely moving away from fuel-powered cars to electric ones by the year 2030.
Earlier this week, the first tranche of 17,000 electric buses, numbering 100, arrived in the country to kickstart the process.
As a result, auto mechanics around the country will need to update their skills to cope with the new initiative.
At a meeting with the leadership of the Ghana National Association of Garages at Suame Magazine, considered one of the biggest auto-mechanic hubs in Sub-Saharan Africa, Dr. Prempeh shared government's plans to improve the industry.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Chairman for the Ghana Association of Garages, Alhaji Luqman Mohammed Nuhu Apiedu, urged government to provide them with training centres to make the transition a seamless one.
