MarGov't Begins Process Of Removing Ban On Importation Of Salvaged Vehicles
The Trade Minister, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has started stakeholder consultation as the government of Ghana begins the process of removing the ban on the importation of salvaged vehicles into the country.Hon. Ofosu-Adjare made a stop at Kumasi Suame Magazine on Friday, March 14, 2025 after similar engagements with automobiles, dealers in brand new cars, assemblers and second-hand car dealers in Accra.
The Minister met with the Suame Magazine Industrial Development Organisation(SMIDO), which is made up of various trade organisations in the Suame Magazine enclave.
The Customs(Amendment) Act 2020, prohibits the importation of salvaged motor vehicles, including those wrecked, destroyed or damaged by collision, fire, water or other occurrences.
During his campaign tour, President John Dramani Mahama, promised to take a second look at the Customs(Amendment) Act 2020, as the ban was having a negative impact on the businesses of artisans in the industry and transport sector.
Joined by the Ashanti Regional minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, during her visit, the trade minister assured the people of Kumasi Suame Magazine that the President will fulfill all promises made to them and the automobile industry.
The Trade Minister will wrap up her stakeholder consultation with another visit to Kokompe after which Parliament will ensure that the amendment is done safely.
